Tragic Loss: “King of the Hill” and “Parks and Rec” Actor Jonathan Joss Shot Dead at 59

Joss has left us for the celestial sphere. The renowned actor Jonathan Joss, who enjoyed great popularity for voicing John Redcorn on King of the Hill and Chief Ken Hotate on Parks and Recreation, has tragically passed away. He was only 59 years old. Reports suggest that he was shot outside his house in Texas on Sunday, June 1, 2025, which left the fans inconsolable.

The actor was shot in San Antonio, Texas and authorities received a call regarding the same. They located him in close proximity to his residence and took him to the hospital. Unfortunately, even given the heroic efforts of the officers and medics, he was declared dead at the location. The police arrested Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, aged 56, shortly after the incident. He is being charged with murder.

An Accomplished Voice Acting and Performance:

The character of John Redcorn from the renowned animated series “King of the Hill” will always remain close to Jonathan Joss’ heart, as it set him apart due to his iconic voice work throughout the show. Joss took over from Victor Aaron in the second season and became popular among fans. His portrayal added a fount of amusement as well as complexity to the character which made John Redcorn a permanent staple of the legacy of the show. Reports suggested that ‘King of the Hill’ was in the works of a revival series which was scheduled to be released on Hulu in August and Joss had already recorded lines for the character.

It was not only his animated performances, Joss also amazed his fans with his lived action roles. He was also given praise for his attending role of Chief Ken Hotate in the award winning wit driven show “Parks and Recreation”. Joss alongside the Wamapoke tribe of casino owned fictitious people of the Wamapoke tribe was a tribal elder and served in the forms of sharp yet erect wits and humour turning him into a scene stealer and one of the most popular character of the show.

Police Have Yet to Find a Lead in a Case of Tragic Death:

Currently, there are no leads in the case. It does not appear at this point in time that the shooting was the result of a hate crime. John Joss’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, was heard saying on several occasions that the attack had some elements of a hate crime, in which Joss tried to protect him from the shooting ‘for a reason that can only be understood if one knows that she saw a lot more than a reasonable person would’. He also reported being plagued by stalkerish neighbors before this encounter took placed.

His tragic death has triggered an avalanche of concern and accolades from fellow actors, creators or even ordinary viewers. “Parks and Recreation” co-star Nick Offerman articulated the shock that was collectively felt by the cast and added that Joss turns out to be in very good spirits. “King of the Hill” creators have made a sad statement about their former colleague’s death and said Joss was very critical for the show.

The San Antonio-born-and-bred American Indian actor, Jonathan Joss, enjoyed a long career’s worth of telly and cinema work most notably in Tulisa King, Ray donovan and True grit. It is with great sadness that we acknowledge he will no longer warm our screens with his gentle warmth and unwavering dedication to his craft.
